About

Serena Morton
Agent Morton was founded by Serena Morton in Spring 2008 to collaborate with a hand-picked stable of innovative contemporary artists from Britain and abroad. Founder members of the group were Damian Elwes, Rupert Shrive and Chris Levine, who have since been joined by emerging talents Angus Hampel, Tanis Shaw, John Gale and the hugely influential Gerald Laing.
Agent Morton currently has a pop-up gallery in a South Kensington townhouse, where classic first-floor rooms are hung with a changing selection of the artists’ work, launched at seasonal private views and also available to view by appointment. She intends to move to a permanent home in Spring 2010. Agent Morton also holds viewings in the artists’ studios and puts on shows in a range of interesting spaces from Shoreditch to Mayfair.
Agent Morton is the result of Serena Morton’s lifelong love of art. Born in London to an artist and an interior designer, she grew up surrounded by art, music and books. She worked first in fashion, music and television in London and Melbourne and then made a formal move into the art world when she joined Christie’s in 1994. There, in the print department and 20th-century British Paintings and Sculpture, she developed both a keen eye and a sound understanding of the art market. In 1998, she put on one of the first pop-up shows in Brick Lane and continued to stage pop-ups in diverse places over the next few years. In Spring 2006, she became curator of Scream, Ronnie Wood’s gallery in Mayfair, and launched the venture with a sell-out show of Damian Elwes’s paintings. A dynamic programme of bi-monthly exhibitions of work by renowned and rising artists followed until Serena left to start Agent Morton.
Agent Morton likes to nurture and support artists and takes similar care of her clients, who include fine-art consultants and collectors, both established and brand-new.
